Sunday School
11:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Sundays After Holy Qurbana
OUR SYROMALABAR CCD MISSION
To make our children and community know and love Christ and the Church. The aim of “Faith Formation is to help the faithful believe and practice the faith that Jesus is the Son of God and to build up the mystical body of Christ, i.e., the Church” (Pope John Paul II).
The aim of the Sunday school is to give our children a foundation in the Catholic Church’s teachings by teaching the lessons from the catechetical textbooks, basic prayers, sacraments, scriptures, Syro-Malabar Church traditions, and training in charity. The community greatly appreciates the dedication and service of all the teachers. If any member of our parish would like to volunteer for teaching in the Sunday school, please contact the Sunday school Principal.
Text Books: We follow the Catechetical textbook series of the Syro-Malabar Church prescribed by the Diocese of Chicago.
Classes: We currently have 50+ students and have classes for grades Pre-K through the 10th. Additionally, classes are provided to kids who will be receiving their Sacraments of First/Solemn Communion, confirmation and reconciliation.
Teachers: We have 18 teachers who volunteer their time to teach the Sunday school classes.
Principal/DRE: Mr. Biju Issac, +1-(305)-778-0045 or email us: [email protected]
Safe Environment: We value the safety of our children. We recognize that this is a daily job and are vigilant in our outlook. As such, we are in compliance with the Child Protection Policies of the Archdiocese of Washington and the St. Thomas Syro-Malabar Diocese of Chicago. All catechists and volunteers and Parish priest have their background checks performed and cleared before teaching students. All our teacher volunteers have attended the “Protecting Gods Children” Classes conducted by the Archdiocese of Washington. All new teachers and volunteers above 18 y.o. will be necessarily taking this class. Additionally, all teachers and volunteers are required to provide a signed yearly code-of-conduct form adhering to the standards set by Diocese of Chicago. We also provide yearly training classes for our kids to recognize and responding to unsafe behavior as required by diocese.
Registration: Please complete and return the attached registration forms to the Principal. Families of children attending Sunday school must be registered with the OLPH Syro-Malabar Catholic Mission. Fees is currently $40/student.
School Calendar 2019-2020: Tentative calendar for the School year is provided for guidance only. Please refer to updated messages and emails for current status of Sunday classes and other events.
